Pony Club Winter Showjumping - Christmas Championships!

We held the Championship show for 2007 on what was possibly the coldest Friday evening of the year! However, the weather did not deter our top riders in each section, and there was a full turn out. We had some wonderfully dedicated supporters who braved the cold, and everybody was warmed up considerably by Louise's lovely mulled wine and cakes!

Each rider had to draw their horse or pony from an envelope, and then it was straight on to the novice class. There were five finalists in this section, and three of them went through to the jump-off for first place. With a simple course for the jump-off, it was all down to the riding and who could cut their corners the sharpest! The two fastest riders were extremely quick and it was a very close contest. However, there can only be one winner, and it was Alice Evans who took first with Mary, and Richard Hodgson was second on Little Boo. The standard of riding for the Novice section this year has been exceptionally impressive, with our younger riders taking some of the fastest courses and the most daring turns!

The Lower Intermediate class had four finalists in it, and each had one of the larger, less nippy ponies, meaning that every turn had to be planned and executed just right to save ground. Once again, it was Mary who came out triumphant, this time with Selina Bisset. Evie Whitehouse and Fergal were second, in a very close time.

The Upper Intermediate class, traditionally our most competitive section, was no different this year. The turns were tighter and tighter with each round, and only a second separated the top two. However, Alexa Holland and Schuey clocked up the fastest time of the evening, just putting last year's winner Mike Hodgson into second place.

In the Open section it was almost as competitive as the Upper Intermediates. With only three to jump-off, the result was wide open. Jamie, Kristen and Danielle had all won classes throughout the series, but on the night it was Danielle Gent and Bruno who managed the fastest time, with kristen Holland in second on Zak. This was an impressive placing nevertheless, as Kristen had never actually ridden Zak before!

Once again, Anna and Emma would like to thank everyone who has helped out throughout the series. We really appreciate the support of parents and family, without whom none of the Pony Club competitions would be possible. Also a big thank you to Louise Hodgson for a fabulous catering department! Here's to the next jumping series, although after all the cold evenings perhaps it had better be a summer one instead!
