After the huge success of last year's Winter Showjumping, we had decided to run our Pony Club competitions again this year. The 2007 series began on Friday 28th September,
and it was great to see so many riders back again from last year, as well as being able to welcome some new faces! The improvement over the last twelve months in our showjumpers has been
very rewarding to see, with several riders moving up a class, or making the big step from ponies to horses.
The evening saw a number of excellent clear rounds, and it seems that all three levels appear to have caught the competitive bug that was so prevalent in the Intermediate section last year!
The Novice riders opened the competition with a record number of clears round Emma's testing course, and both the Intermediate and Open riders followed their example. When it came to the jump-off it was obvious that
nothing had been forgotten from 2006, with the turns becoming even tighter and the speed even faster with each round!
However, there could only be one winner for each class. In the Novice section in was Amelia Ward and Little Boo who took the honours. It was the first Winter series competition for both Amelia and Boo, but they produced an excellent
round that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Intermediate section! Boo also took second place, this time with Kate Evans, who rode another good round. The Intermediate section was won by last year's champion, Mike Hodgson, who has his title to defend.
He made a good start for 2007, riding Schuey for a speedy clear and just beating Maddie Curry into second, although only by a fraction of a second! The Open class saw one of the most exciting jump-offs ever, with the fences right up and the riders really going for it against the clock. Lydia Boyle-Chambers and Flint set a scorching pace,
only to be pipped by Danielle Gent, one of the most consistent riders from last year. However, it was Jamie Duffill, who moved from Intermediate to Open this year, who finally took first place riding Bruno. The only pony in the Open section jumped superbly, putting Danielle into second place and Lydia into third.
Well done to all who jumped, and we look forward to another exciting series for 2007!
